Enhancing New Jersey’s Child Welfare Response to Family Violence: Exploring Insights from Qualitative Data

As part of our ongoing evaluation of the certificate program offering advanced training to professionals addressing interpersonal violence within families, our team has entered the next phase of this mixed-methods project—qualitative data analysis. Rutgers University’s Center for Research on Ending Violence developed the program in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Children and Families (DCF).

Over the past several months, we conducted interviews with child welfare professionals who participated in the certificate program. These conversations provided valuable insights into how the training has influenced practice, supported professional growth, and highlighted opportunities for continued learning.

Our research team is now systematically analyzing the interview transcripts to identify key themes and patterns across participants’ experiences. This qualitative analysis will deepen our understanding of how the certificate program is being implemented in the field and how it shapes responses to family violence. The findings will inform actionable recommendations to strengthen training content, enhance relevance, and support ongoing workforce development.

We are deeply grateful to all participants who shared their time, expertise, and reflections. Their feedback is directly guiding the continued development and refinement of the certificate program, ensuring that future trainings are even more responsive to the realities of child welfare practice.

Stay tuned for future updates as we share emerging findings and next steps from this phase of the evaluation.
