The New Jersey State Policy Lab is supporting another round of innovative research projects addressing policy challenges impacting New Jersey. In response to our recent call, we received more than three dozen proposals from a strong pool of applicants. We are delighted to share that we have selected the following principal investigators to receive seed funding to support their research:
- Valerio Baćak (School of Criminal Justice, Rutgers): A Preliminary Evaluation of the ARRIVE Together Program in New Jersey
- Joel Cantor (Center for State Health Policy, Rutgers): Hospital Market Consolidation and Access to Quality Healthcare in New Jersey
- Kiran Garimella (School of Communication & Information, Rutgers): Measuring how AI Data Centers Affect New Jersey Household Electricity Bills
- Eddie Guerra (School of Earth & Environment, Rowan): Expanding New Jersey’s Nuclear Generation Capacity
- Liana Lin (Heldrich Center for Workforce Development, Rutgers): Artificial Intelligence and Small Businesses in New Jersey: Challenges, Opportunities, and Policy Implications
- Hannah Younes and Leigh Ann Von Hagen (Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center, Rutgers): Crash Response Reimagined: Building NJ’s Target Zero Rapid Response Program
- Kaifeng Yang (School of Public Affairs & Administration, Rutgers): AI in Policing and Perceived Legitimacy: The Role of Human Resource Practices
The Policy Lab seeks to advance research that can be scaled as part of a larger project. Preference was given to projects demonstrating a path to external funding, planning to incorporate the New Jersey State Policy Lab substantively into subsequent research proposals, and supporting students working as research assistants. We would like to thank all the faculty and staff who took the time to submit a proposal.
Our review committee consisted of the Policy Lab’s principal investigator, Stuart Shapiro, co-principal investigators, Charles Menifield, Kelcie Ralph, and Greg Porumbescu, and executive director, Elizabeth Cooner. We are grateful for the support we receive from the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education.
